Ric Flair, also recognised as ‘The Nature Boy,’ is a former competitive cruiserweight best remembered for his opulent lifestyle and dependence on alcohol and women. He was the identity of the National Wrestling Ally (NWA) and Championship Wrestling (WCW) at one time and is generally acknowledged as one of the greatest superstars of all time. Flair, the first WCW champion, has taken the World Championship a career high 16 times.

Early Life

Ric Flair was born Fred Phillips on February 25, 1949, in southwest Tennessee near Mississippi River in Memphis, to Luther and Olive Phillips. Richard Reid Fliehr and Kathleen Virginia Kinsmiller adopted him from the Tennessee Children’s Home Community and decided to name him Richard Morgan Fliehr. His adoptive dad was a doctor, and his foster mother was a starlet. He then relocated to Edina, Minnesota, with his young family, where he started attending Wayland Academy. He was an energetic student athlete in school, participating in soccer, track, and grappling. He began wrestling as a rookie well before entering the University of Minnesota on a sports scholarship and decided to drop out shortly after finishing his freshman year. He met Olympic powerlifter Ken Patera, who presented him to American Wrestling Association (AWA) organizer Verne Gagne, while working as a bar manager at a club.

Professional Career

Richard Morgan Fliehr decided to join Gagne’s wrestlers camp in 1971, which was held at Gagne’s farmhouse outside of Minneapolis. He prepared alongside Greg Gagne, Gagne’s son, Jim Brunzell, The Iron Sheik, as well as Ken Patera. In December 1972, he wrestled his first game as ‘Ric Flair’ against George “Scrap Steel” Gadaski in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. The game finished in a 10-minute tie. Ric Flair defeated Bobo Brazil to win the ‘NWA United States Heavyweight Title’ on July 29, 1977. Flair reclaimed the national title five times over the following three years, defeating adversaries such as Ricky Riverboat, Roddy Piper, Mr. Wrestling, Jimmy Snuka, and Greg Vivian. Flair held the title for more than two years prior to actually losing it to Dusty Rhodes.

Personal Life

On August 28, 1971, Ric Flair wedded Leslie Goodman for the first time. Megan and David were the couple’s two kids. They split up in 1983 after a 12-year relationship. Flair tied the knot with Elizabeth Harrell on August 27, 1983, within the same year. Ashley and Reid were the couple’s two kids. Elizabeth made numerous appearances on WCW. Nevertheless, the couple split in 2006. Flair then decided to marry Tiffany VanDemark on May 27, 2006. Their relationship, however, was brief, and their divorce was completed in 2009. Having followed the same pattern, Flair married his fourth wife the same year he filed for divorce VanDemark. On November 11, he married Jacqueline “Jackie” Beems.
